7
3 types of fingerprint patterns: whorl loop arch Galton Details: used to aid in identification - short ridge - dot - fork - ending ridge

STATISTICS 65 % OF THE POPULATION HAS THE LOOP PATTERN. 30 % OF THE POPULATION THE WHORL PATTERN. 5 % OF THE POPULATION THE ARCH PATTERN IS DOMINATE.

FINGERPRINTS : FACTS Chance of 2 people having the same prints : 1: 64 billion!! YOU CAN OUT GROW YOUR SHOES BUT NOT YOUR FINGERPRINTS KOALA’S FINGERPRINTS CAN BE MISTAKENLY IDENTIFIED FROM THAT OF A HUMAN BEING’S AS HUMANS GET IDENTIFIED THROUGH THEIR FINGERPRINTS, THE DOGS ARE BY THEIR NOSE PRINTS. THE FBI’S FINGERPRINT DATABASE IS THE LARGEST IN THE WORLD. The first people to be convicted of a crime using fingerprint evidence was in 1905

FINGERPRINT FACTS YOU CANNOT ALTER OR CHANGE YOUR FINGERPRINTS BY CUTTING, BURNING OR SCRAPING THEM. ITS PATTERN WILL REMAIN THE SAME AS A NEW SKIN IS DEVELOPED. IDENTICAL TWINS DO NOT HAVE IDENTICAL FINGERPRINTS- THEY IDENTICAL DNA. Ridges that become fingerprints begin to form in the womb at about 13 wks. At 21-24 wks the developing child has a set of fingerprints fully developed. Fingerprints ( the ridges and valleys) are actually formed in the deepest level of the epidermis /top layer of the dermis.
11
FORENSIC USE OF FINGERPRINTS FBI MAINTAINS A LIBRARY OF ABOUT 10% OF THE UNITED STATES POPULATION. 60 MILLION SETS WITH 200,000 SETS BEING ADDED DAILY. FINGERPRINTING HAS BEEN USED AS EVIDENCE SINCE THE LATE 19 TH CENTURY. THE FIRST PROFESSIONAL FORENSIC ORGANIZATION WAS BEGUN IN 1915 AND THE FIRST CERTIFICATION PROGRAM FOR FINGERPRINTING BEGAN IN 1977.
12
FINGERPRINTING. FINGERPRINT IDENTIFICATIONS LEAD TO MORE POSITIVE IDENTIFICATIONS OF PERSONS WORLDWIDE DAILY THAN ANY OTHER HUMAN IDENTIFICATION PROCEDURE.
13
TYPES OF FINGERPRINTS LATENT PRINTS: A latent fingerprint is that type of fingerprint that is accidentally done on any surface. Often these types of fingerprints are hidden or Invisible depending on the amount of pressure, kind of surface and underlying factors. These types of prints are considered by forensic science experts as hard to identify, for most are smudged, or distorted in nature.
14
TYPES OF FINGERPRINTS PATENT PRINTS- THESE ARE THE MOST COMMON TYPES OF FINGERPRINTS. THESE PRINTS ARE MOSTLY CLEAR IN NATURE AND CAN BE EASILY IDENTIFIED. THESE MARKS ARE COMMONLY MADE IN THE DEPOSITS OF THE CREASES DONE BY SEPARATE MATERIALS SUCH AS INK, WATER OR OIL.
15
Types of fingerprints PLASTIC PRINTS: These types of prints are also similar to the patent type only in the manner of impression. Plastic prints are those prints that are impressed or deposited into a material which is capable of retaining the impressed ridges. Ex. print left after touch melted candle or some prints left in grease on a car, or gum.
