T HEME D EVELOPMENT Topics: Pride Compassion Death Human Nature Differences Now, from these topics and the textual evidence we have highlighted, develop 2-3 themes. Remember that a theme is a complete statement that expresses a lesson the author is trying to convey about life, the world, or human nature.

E XAMPLE T HEMES While pride can lead to confidence and positivity in our lives, it can also lead to destruction when left unchecked. Sometimes we are most cruel toward the ones we love. An early death can come to those who are least deserving of death. We must have compassion for those who are less fortunate than us. We should be kind to people even when they are different.

2 ND F ORMATIVE P ARAGRAPH On the pink paper I give you, write 1 paragraph (which should have at least 8 sentences) to answer the prompt. You have the rest of the period to complete this paragraph.
