OAS: “New School” Standards  Focus more on reading texts for the purpose of gathering information.  Standards are like a staircase moving students to higher skills and knowledge from PreK–12.  Students improve writing skills as part of learning in all subject areas.  Students slow down and think deeply to spark their own ideas.  Students learn to apply what they learn in solving problems.  Standards focus on what will be expected of graduates in the real-world.
