Derbyshire Festival 2014 An introduction to the Masonic Samaritan Fund (MSF)

What is a Festival?

What is the MSF? Provides financial assistance for medical, dental and respite care and support For Freemasons, their wives, partners and dependants Who have an identified need and are waiting for treatment or care And cannot afford private care without incurring financial hardship.

What has it done? Provided £40m in grants to over 8,000 applicants since 1990 £494k in grants to 82 applicants in Derbyshire in the same period.

Its achievement … So far … “No qualifying petitioner has been refused relief due to a lack of resources” but …

During 2009 MSF is expecting to receive more applications give £4million in grants That’s nearly £11,000 per day

The MSF does not … Provide an emergency service Act as a Masonic BUPA Provide retrospective grants

What does the future hold for the MSF? Global financial situation –Less self-funding –Decrease in donations Increased demand –Aging population –By 2025 1.9 million over the age of 90 New demand in new areas –Such as degenerative diseases
