3 MISSION: Through a collaborative effort between the community college and local high school district, the purposes of the funding for Middle College High School are to: reduce high school dropout rates by improving academic performance; improve students’ self-concept and self-esteem; improve the rates of high potential, low achievement students who enter college; and enhance their college and career options. The partnership between San Bernardino Valley College and San Bernardino City Unified School District, demonstrates what sheer determination and continued work does to help students be more successful in reaching their educational goals.

5 Andrew Montana Freshman Students participating in the 9 th grade PRE-MCHS program May apply to be a Middle College High School Student for their 10 th grade year. Focus on study and organizational Skills – readiness for college.

6 Jordan Brown Sophomore: First year as Middle College High School Student Registers for 4-11 college units in addition to five high school classes. Begin formal Ed Plan to focus on future goals and present classes.

7 Jalen Cleveland Junior Focus is on planning for courses to lead to an Associate of Arts Degree and/or IGETC certification.

10 77 have completed a minimum of 6 college units with a GPA of 3.5 or better during the spring and/or fall 2013 semesters. Four will earn an Associate of Arts Degree in May 2014.

12 SUCCESS 183 students (10th- 12 th ) Completed 401 classes with a “C” or better in the fall Total of 1253 college units Average number of units earned per student (with “C” or better) was 6.8. Average Grade Point Average was 3.01.

14 47 members of the Middle College class of 2014 Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.06 in San Bernardino Valley College classes Average of 35.11 completed college units per student. Seniors enrolled in an average of 8.5 units in Spring semester, Completed unit average to 44

15 Grand Merit of Honor Recipients Graduating Seniors who earned a 3.5 or higher GPA for EACH semester in attendance at MCHS@SBVC
