Curriculum Introduction to Scientific Practices Become familiar with the scientific practices implemented throughout the year. Chemistry Particle nature of matter, phase changes, periodic table of elements Human impact: natural vs. manmade/synthetic materials Biology Organism and ecosystem interactions Human impact: invasive species Earth Science Water cycle and rock cycle Human impact: our impact on the water cycle (oil spill, plastics in the water, algal blooms and dead zones)

Science Themes Introduction to Scientific Practices How does a scientist think? How does a scientist run a reliable experiment? How does a scientist communicate his findings? Chemistry How can I smell things from a distance? What makes one substance different from another? Biology What can cause a population to change? What caused the trout population to nearly die out? Earth Science How does water interact with rock to shape our planet?

Grading Policy Binder check – Formal 10 point grade after every trimester – Informal 2-3 point grade randomly – Why? Executive function skills – organization Study mechanism

Grading Policy Binder check Weekly workbook checks – Most Friday’s – Quick HW completion checks for the week’s worth of assignments – Typically 15-30 points – Rubric found on website the evening before
