Objective: SWBAT represent mathematical relationships using graphs. Bell Ringer: How can you analyze the relationship in the given graph? 5 minutes 4 minutes 3 minutes 2 minutes 1 minute 30 seconds TIMES UP!!! Homework: Textbook- Read 231 -236 Do: P. 237-239: 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 1523 Note: All Homework Collected due on Fridays ONLY

The graph shows the volume of air in a balloon as you blow it up, until it pops. What are the variables? Describe how the variables are related at various points on the graph Objective: SWBAT represent mathematical relationships using graphs. Variables: Volume & Time Volume increases each time you blow It stays constant each time you pause to breath When the balloon pops in the middle of the 4 th blow, the volume decreases to 0. Read the titles. Axis titles tell you what variables are related. The graph itself represents the relationship as the variables change. Homework: Textbook- Read 231 -236 Do: P. 237-239: 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 1523 Note: All Homework Collected due on Fridays ONLY

What are the variables? Describe how the variables are related at various points on the graph Objective: SWBAT represent mathematical relationships using graphs. Variables: Cost and Minutes Cost is constant until June exceeds plan minutes Homework: Textbook- Read 231 -236 Do: P. 237-239: 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 1523 Note: All Homework Collected due on Fridays ONLY

A band allowed fans to download its new video from its Web site. The table shows what? -the number of downloads for each of 4 days. Explain which graph could represent the data shown in the table? Objective: SWBAT represent mathematical relationships using graphs. Homework: Textbook- Read 231 -236 Do: P. 237-239: 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 1523 Note: All Homework Collected due on Fridays ONLY 1. I know….. -the relationship is represented by a table 2. I need…. A graph that could represent the relationship 3. My plan is: - to compare the pattern the table to each graph

Working with your elbow partner: 1.Sketch a graph that could represent the height of the rocket during its flight. 2.Label each section of the graph to indicate what is happening during the flight Objective: SWBAT represent mathematical relationships using graphs. Homework: Textbook- Read 231 -236 Do: P. 237-239: 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 23 Note: All Homework Collected due on Fridays ONLY A model rocket rises quickly and then slows to a stop as its fuel burns out. It begins to fall quickly until the parachute opens, after whih if falls slowly back to Earth.

What are the variables in the playground scenario? Consider quantity of children Time of day temperature There are 6 children playing in a playground. Is the number of children playing a constant or a variable quantity? The # of children is a variable quantity because it will change. What other variables might affect the number of children at the playground? Time of day; temperature… Objective: SWBAT represent mathematical relationships using graphs. Homework: Textbook- Read 231 -236 Do: P. 237-239: 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 23 Note: All Homework Collected due on Fridays ONLY

Independent Variable Definitions A variable whose value depends on the value of another variable. It changes in response to another variable. Also called OUTPUTS Dependent Variable The variable that changes another variable. Also called INPUTS Playground Temperature/ Weather Time of day # of Children Objective: SWBAT represent mathematical relationships using graphs. Homework: Textbook- Read 231 -236 Do: P. 237-239: 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 1523 Note: All Homework Collected due on Fridays ONLY

Definitions The relationship that pairs each input value with exactly one output variable Function Example: y = 3x + 1 Or f(x) = 3x + 1 Note: f(x) or the function of x is read: “F” of “x” Objective: SWBAT represent mathematical relationships using graphs. Homework: Textbook- Read 231 -236 Do: P. 237-239: 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 1523 Note: All Homework Collected due on Fridays ONLY
