3 Title IX and the growth of youth and college soccer By 2000, nearly 2.7 million youth were participating in soccer programs. The growth of women’s soccer continued to grow during the late 1990’s passing the men in 1997, and by 1999, there were more women’s varsity programs in the NCAA than the men’s.

4 Title IX Continued A number of factors made women’s participation on soccer grow. The number of NCAA colleges had grown from 750 to over 1,000 during this time. The impact of Title IX required not only equal expenditures among all men’s men’s and women’s sports, also equal participation.
