Objectives 30.1 Levels of Organization
Describe how the human body is organized. Explain homeostasis.
2
The levels of organization in the human body include:
Cells Tissues Organs Organ systems
3
Cells A cell is the smallest unit of life.
4
Tissues A tissue is a group of cells that come together to form a particular function.
5
Types of Tissues: 1. The tissue that lines the inside and outside of the body is epithelial tissue.
6
2. Tissue that provides support for the body and connects its parts is connective tissue.
7
3. Nerve impulses are transmitted throughout the body by nervous tissue.
8
4. Movements of the body are possible because of muscle tissue.
9
Organs A group of different types of tissues that work together to perform a single or several related functions is called an organ.
10
Organ Systems An organ system is a group of organs that perform closely related functions.
