Abstinence The practice of not engaging in sexual intercourse or sexual play This is the only way to prevent 100% against pregnancy and/or STDs

Birth Control Pill Up to 99.7% effective against pregnancy Health benefits Less acne Fewer menstrual cramps Regular periods Only effective if taken every day Does not protect against STDs Can be obtained at a health care provider

Condoms One of the only ways to protect against STDs, besides abstinence Latex condoms are up to 98% effective against pregnancy Female condoms are up to 95% effective Can be obtained at most pharmacies or health care providers

Withdrawal AKA the pull out method Removing the penis from the vagina before ejaculation Not a method recommended for teens High risk of pregnancy Susceptible to STDs

Emergency Contraceptives Also known as emergency birth control, backup birth control, the morning after pill, and by the brand names Must be taken within 120 hours (5 days) after unprotected intercourse The sooner, the better Available OTC to women and men over 17 Teens under 17 can still get EC with a prescription.
