A Bunsen Burner was named after Robert Bunsen. It is a common piece of science equipment that produces a gas flame. It is used for heating, sterilization, and combustion. The hose barb for the gas tube is facing left and the needle valve for gas flow adjustment is on the opposite side. Robert Bunsen

Always remember to stay safe in a science room! Here are some of the rules you MUST follow: o Firstly, always listen to the teacher when she is talking o Always wear goggles and an apron when using a Bunsen burner o Never work alone in a science room, make sure there is a teacher there who is watching you o Always watch the Bunsen burner, don’t let it out of your site o Do not eat or drink in a science room o If you have long hair you need to tie it up otherwise you could lean into the Bunsen burner and your hair could be on flames o Don’t spay fragrances into the classroom because they maybe flammable o The main rule is to HAVE FUN!

1.You have to attach the rubber pipe to the gas tap, make sure that no air can get in the pipe. 2.You then have to get a match and lit it and turn the gas on. 3.Then you quickly put the match over the flame whilst the gas is on. When it has lit properly the flame will start to blow out. 4.You have lit your Bunsen burner! Now you need a tripod, put that on top and after put a gauze on top of the tripod remember to have a heat proof mat underneath. 5. You are now set!

On a Bunsen burner there are two different types of flame. There is the silent blue flame and the yellow safety flame. The silent blue flame is for gentle heating and is silent and not very visible. The yellow safety flame is so you can see it easily and know it is there. It is not used for heating because it creates soot. To turn the to the different flames all you need to do is turn the switch at the bottom. When the hole is open it means I will be the yellow but when it is closed it will be blue.

There are many different types of experiments you can do with a Bunsen burner. In science you will properly do some. Here is one you can try! Apparatus: Bunsen burner, gaze, tripod, heat proof mat, beaker, 150ml of water, an egg, thermometer Method:.Heat the water with the Bunsen burner. When it has reached boiling point, crack in the egg. Try and find out...... What happens to the yellow bit of the egg, What happens to the white liquid around the egg.
