3 Tab VI – External Reviewers  Need two external reviewers  ESSENTIAL component of the promotion process  Regional director or supervisor, in consultation with the candidate, will identify the reviewers (Appendix E, F, and G).  Reviewer may be internal, part of the University System, or external professional from other universities or agencies who have collaborated with the candidate.

4 Tab VI – External Reviewers  Reviewer must comment:  How you know the candidate  Candidate’s academic work (merits)  Reputation and relative standing in their field  What difference their work has made  Need to be specific (quantitative)  Do not use generalizations

5 Tab VI – External Reviewer  When selecting reviewers:  Avoid former mentors or officemates  Reviewer needs to be somebody who can be objective (unbiased)  Reviewer should comment on the candidates academic contributions only

6 Peer Evaluations  Up to 4 peer evaluations  Not required  Go into Tab V  Submit letter to Regional Director or supervisor

7 Peer Evaluations  Holding same rank or higher  Provide written comments regarding the candidate’s promotion

8 The Process  Regional Director or Supervisor  The communicator  The uploader  If outside the University System, no access to share point and will have to make copies of the dossier for the reviewer.

10 Reminders  CV – limited to 25 pages  Tab 5 – limited to 25 pages  Plus, samples of work (5 documents and no more than 25 pages)

11 Folders  Light blue pressboard report binder  Tabs – using Roman numerals  Front label  Name  Division of Extension Dossier in Support of Promotion to the Level of ________________  Submission Date (November 1, 2013)

12 Reconsideration/Appeal  Negative recommendation  Can request an appeal by written format Committee Vice Provost of Extension Provost level  Usually asked to provide additional clarification  A hearing will be held  Regardless of the recommendation, the dossier will move to the next level unless the candidate requests to withdrawal.

13 Timeline Nov. 1Candidate provided 3 paper copies and an electronic copy via SharePoint of dossier to supervisor. Dec. 1Supervisors and Regional Directors submit letters of recommendation and completed dossier packets to the NTT Committee.

14 Timeline Jan. 15The chair of the NTT committee provides the Vice Provost with written notice of the committee’s vote and recommendation (withdrawal/appeal). June 1The Vice Provost forwards the candidate’s dossier and the recommendation to the Provost. Aug. 1Provost completes review. Sept. 1If approved by Provost, candidate’s promotion becomes effective.
