MOVING DARTMOUTH FORWARD UPDATE: CODE OF CONDUCT Focused on three qualities for the code of conduct: Concise and a living document that would be visible to the community Focused on the individual’s responsibilities as a member of the Dartmouth community Affirmed values that promote learning from and with one another Developed a three paragraph document Directed toward students with the hope that the entire community could endorse and engage with 3

MOVING DARTMOUTH FORWARD UPDATE: LiveSafe SMART PHONE APPLICATION Led by Harry Kinne Working group has evaluated 13 commercial apps and narrowed down the list to 6 apps Vendors have been invited to demo the apps Recommended the selection of the LiveSafe application 9

MOVING DARTMOUTH FORWARD UPDATE: 4-Year Sexual Violence Prevention & Education Program Formed a small working group of students, faculty and staff. Researched evidence-based interventions and prevention practices. Reviewed federal guidelines for Title IX and Clery. Explored curriculum and prevention strategies at other institutions. Used a logic model to guide work. Conducted internal inventory of relevant programs and practices.

(Orientation) OPAL Connections (Fall) Speak Up! (Winter & Spring) Revising FYRE Programs: Sexual Decision-Making (Fall), Sexual Assault (Winter), and Diversity (Fall, Winter, & Spring), Ongoing search for Healthy Relationships and Sexual Health Specialist Focus grouping and information gathering

Dartmouth House Communities Academic Engagement: House Professors provide an academic role model, foster intellectual community and develop house identity Community: Life-long house membership identity, common residential and program experiences & deeper engagement with faculty, staff and alumni house members promote positive sense of community Continuity: More than a random space to sleep and do laundry, house communities will provide a home base, a sense of place, and greater continuity in the residential experience 15

The Student Experience Life-long house membership designation at matriculation House communities of up to ~700 students, approximately half in residence in any given term o First year students continue to live together in first year halls, and participate in house activities o Sophomores, juniors & seniors may choose to live in house communities for continuity o Sophomores, juniors & seniors participate in house programs but may choose other residential options such as live learn communities, affinity programs, off- campus apartments, or Greek residences 16

The Student Experience Strong house student governance structures partner with House Professors to promote community, develop programming, manage intramurals, etc. House programming budgets support wide range of house community activities, including regular “feeds”, intramurals, concerts, field trips, new annual traditions, events with house alumni, house swag, experiential learning & leadership development activities 17

Countdown to Opening in Fall of 2016 Spring 2015-Appoint House Professors, convene student advisory group, continue program & facilities planning Summer 2015-Focused planning with sophomores, who will be seniors when the House communities open o Fall 2015-Dean of the College Rebecca Biron, House Professors and Student Affairs continue the planning process o Winter 2016-all non-graduating students receive House membership designations in advance of the spring room draw process o Summer 2016-Incoming ‘20s receive random house community assignments in addition to their room assignment to a first year building. House Professors move in to their campus residences. o Fall 2016-Inaugural House community programs, activities & new traditions begin 20

We Expect to Create a Campus Where… students are 24/7/365 learners and intellectual pursuits take precedence over activities that lead to high-risk behavior; students are part of an inclusive social environment characterized by dignity and respect for others and safe from extreme, harmful behaviors; students continue the tradition of independently organizing and defining the social scene, but do so with increased adult participation; we support a rich variety of options for community-building and social interaction. 21
