2. Operational Schemes for Skill Development under Higher Education in Tripura Two schemes: 1)Community Development through Polytechnic (CDTP) 2)Persons with Disabilities (PWD)

3. Community Development through Polytechnic (CDTP) Scheme -In Tripura, Tripura Institute of Technology, Narsingarh is running the CDTP Scheme with three extension centers since 2011. -Various short term courses mostly of 6 months duration to impart technical skill especially targeting to school drop outs are offered.

4. Community Development through Polytechnic (CDTP) Scheme -Presently, running the scheme is getting difficult due to change of funding pattern. - Payment through government finance makes procedural delay. - Non-availability of fund as per requirement is posing difficulty in running the scheme.

5. Community Development through Polytechnic (CDTP) Scheme -Coordinator, being a regular faculty can not devote huge time for such persuasion. -Grant may be disbursed through draft / online transfer directly to the Head of the Institution. - Scheme may be introduced in other polytechnics.

6. Persons with Disabilities Scheme(PWD) -Started implementation of the scheme in Tripura Institute of Technology, Narsingarh from 2003. -Under non-formal activity, short term courses like Fan winding, motor winding, DTP etc. conducted. -In formal sector, additional 25nos. of seats are earmarked in Diploma Module of Tripura Institute of Technology, Narsingarh for PWD candidates.

7. -Irregular fund flow to the institution is affecting the continuous implementation of the scheme. -Due to shortage of fund, some of the programes could not be started. -Getting approval from Nodal Agency also takes longer time. -Need to expand the scheme in other Institutes of the state as well. Persons with Disabilities Scheme(PWD)

8. -State Level Steering Committee has been setup under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary, Tripura. -2(two) colleges has been identified. – Dhalai District Polytechnic, Ambassa – General Degree College, Santirbazar -Tripura University (A Central University) has recommended Dhalai District Polytechnic, Ambassa as initial step. 9. -Proposal was sent to MHRD, Govt. of India and UGC for approval and sanction of fund. -UGC has not accepted the proposal as the matter is related to a Polytechnic Institute. -Follow up action is pending and is expected to be taken up shortly. Progress in setting up of Community College
