2 2015 Interclub Objectives To Win Cups and Pennants To give as many members as possible an opportunity to play a part in a winning team –Player –Caddie –Supporter –Manager –All of the above To build competitive team and Club atmosphere Enjoy the experience

3 Squad Code of Conduct You are representing Newlands Golf Club always remember the following: Wear Club Colours –Crested Green Club Jumper –Crested White Tee Shirt –Black Slacks Demeanour – Be assured and play fair Behaviour – Respect Partner, Opposition, Officials & Course Attitude – Have a positive and winning mentality Support each other to the last shot Always do your best even when its not going your way Support the manager – Even when he doesn’t pick you Look like a Team - Act like a Team

4 Preparations:Be sure to Play the Course Get a local score card - Check local rules Know position of hazards Plan the Tricky Holes – How do locals play them Have plenty of putts during practice rounds Practice your Weaker Shots Practice with Partner Fourball, Foursomes. Do you like to talk – does your partner like to talk What are your partners strengths and weaknesses Figure out tee shots for foursomes Let manager know if you are not confident in your game Enjoy the opportunity to play a different Course The Basics Before Match day

5 Preparations:Know your tee time - Give yourself plenty of Travel Time Check your Golf Bag (14 Clubs, Golf Balls Etc) Rain Gear - Towels Nutrition (Food and Drink) Club Clothing. Eat before you Play ApproachHave a plan ie. Who tees First Who Plays Par “3s” Play to each other strengths Listen to Each Other CourseArrive Early Let manager know you are at the venue Practice (Chipping, Putting) Warm Up Take in the atmosphere Play Well – Enjoy the Game The Basics on Match day

6 The Approach Strokeplay Approach 18 Hole Card is what Counts You are playing against the course not your opposition Play each hole on its merits Pars and Bogies are Excellent Hang in there - Good Things Happen Play with next shot in Mind Minimise Errors PracticeYou can use the practice areas in advance of play You can’t practice on the course on qualifying day ScorecardFill your Scores Correctly Check your Scorecard Double-check your Scorecard Submit your Scorecard Play Well – Enjoy the Game

7 The Approach Matchplay Approach Beating your opposition is all that counts. A shot less than the opposition on each hole is the plan Communicate with each other Play each hole park it and focus on the next hole Hang in there - Bad Things Happen You can only control your own game. Stay in the moment PracticeYou can use the practice areas in advance of play You can Play a Couple of Holes “Winning is not about Life and Death, It’s more important than that”

8 Improve your game You are in the team squad because your play has been good enough to catch the managers eye, but what can you do to improve your chances of winning? Have you been to the Practice Area Chipping Practice Putting Practice Have you a Plan Do you need advice? Who can help Work on Course Management – how do the locals play the course You don’t have to go mad hitting hundreds of balls, 30 minutes a couple of times a week will have a major impact Fail to Prepare – Prepare to Fail
