ALBRECHT DURER’S CHILDHOOD o Albrecht Durer’s parents were Albrecht Durer the elder [father] and Barbara Holper [mother]. o He was a German painter. o Albrecht Durer is also a printmaker, engraver, mathematician, and theorist. o His woodcuts, such as the Apocalypse retain a more gothic flavour. o His water colors mark him one of the first landscape artists. H OW A LBRECHT D URER L IVED Albrecht Durer was also good at drawing. Albrecht Durer did not stay in Nuremberg. He started early as an artist. All his life he received important artistic stimuli. He was a goldsmith by trade.

W HERE A LBRECHT D URER M OVED o In 1494, he moved to Italy and he remained there until1495. o Albrecht Durer was a well educated man and experienced painter. o His prints established his reputation. o Albrecht Durer has been conventionally regarded as the greatest artist. o His first to Italy was 1494

o When he returned to Nuremberg was in 1495 – 1505. o When Albrecht Durer returned he went on his second trip to Italy. o After his second trip he travelled back to Nuremberg. o Durer’s introduction of classical motifs, Italian artists, and German humanists has secured his reputation. A LBRECHT D URER AS A G OLDSMITH o Albrecht Durer attended the Lateinschule in St. Lorenz and learned goldsmithing from his father. o From 1486-1489 he studied painting with Michael Wolgemut. o He married Agnes Frey. o Between 1506 – 1512 Durer devoted himself. o In 1520 – 1521 he travelled to the Netherlands.

A LBRECHT D URER ’ S STUDY OF PROPORTIONS o Durer had completed the manuscript of the “Treatise on Proportion” by 1523. o The third book he wrote includes bird’s-eye and profile elevations. o For that reason in 1424-1425 he wrote a strong text. A LBRECHT D URER ’ S A ESTHETIC R ULES o Durer’s aesthetic rules firmly based in the laws of optics. o His next publication was a practical work dedicated by the fear of invasion by the Turks. o Durer’s chief accomplishment as outlined. o In so doing he considered the relations of form. A LBRECHT D URER ’ S T RIUMPH AS A PAINTER o His triumph as a painter lay in his disposition o He extended his Italian travels to Bologna on this occasion. o From about 1508 he sketched and wrote down the substance of his theoretical.

A LBRECHT D URER o In 1505-1507 Albrecht returned to Venice. o Some of these fragments may have been intended for inclusion. o He died in 1529. The End...
