1 Report of PAC for Particle Physics T. Hallman Presented by P. Spillantini JINR Scientific Council Meeting January 15-16, 2004 Dubna, Russia

2 General recommendation on the programme of Particle and Relativistic Nuclear Physics Research for 2004-2006  The PAC endorses the main lines of the JINR Programme of Particle and Relativistic Nuclear Physics Research proposed for the period 2004-2006.

3 Recommendation on the report of the evaluation committee for the scientific programme of the Nuclotron  The PAC endorses the main conclusions of the Committee concerning the core scientific programme of the Nuclotron  The PAC recommends continuation of this activity with the addition of experimentalists and machine physicists to further define the essential measurements to be made as well as the requirements they place on machine performance and whether the requirements can be achieved

4 New projects considered at November Meeting  “Dubna International Advanced School of Theoretical Physics” Recommendation: approval with first priority until the end of 2008; close cooperation with Dubna University Center encouraged. “Project OPERA –neutrino oscillation experiment” (JINR’s participation) Recommendation: approval with first priority until the end of 2006 with the opening of a corresponding theme “Clusters of the JINR distributed computer infrastructure for current particle physics experiments (LPP’s basic facility) (Project  -Cluster) Recommendation: A proposal for a complete project is invited for the next session. In the long term, this project should be integrated into an overall strategic plan by LIT to meet the future needs of the experimental program.

5 New projects considered at November Meeting  “Project NIS: Search and investigation of exotic baryons with positive strangeness in nucleon-nucleon interactions at the Nuclotron” Recommendation: approval with first priority until end of 2005 “Search for glueballs and effects of nucleon polarized strangeness in anti-proton annihilation with PANDA spectrometer at HESR (GSI)” Recommendation: a full proposal is invited at a future meeting “Project Med-Nuclotron of JINR” Recommendation: The authors are invited to present a complete project at the next session including a perspective of ongoing and planned activities world-wide
