Think about the images this man is holding up. What is their message? Challenge task: what world event are these drawings linked to? How did you know?

Francis by no means said the violent attack on Charlie Hebdo was justified. Quite the opposite: He said such horrific violence in God's name couldn't be justified and was an "aberration." But he said a reaction of some sort was to be expected. Nevertheless, those people who react to this event by proclaiming that free speech – and, by extension, a free press (the freedom to print whatever you want to) – is an absolute right.

Debate it! Do we have the right to say whatever we want to? Is it more important to express your opinion or to protect and look out for the feelings of others? Spend 5 minutes discussing on your tables and then we’ll discuss it as a class.
