2. Mechanoreceptors  Mechanoreceptors are sensory receptors that respond to mechanical pressure or distortion  Sensors are located all over the body; in the skin, hair follicles, and mouth

3. Thermoreceptor  Codes absolute and relative changes in temperature  They are located in various tissues such as skin, the cornea, and the urinary bladder.

4. Chemoreceptor  Detects chemical stimuli in the environment  Transduces a chemical signal into action potential  Examples are olfactory receptor neurons, taste buds, carotid bodies and aortic bodies that detect change in oxygen  The chemoreceptor trigger zone is in the medulla of the brain.

5. Photoreceptors  Capable of phototransduction  Convert light into signals that stimulate biological processes.  Found in the retina

6. Pain Receptors  Free nerve endings that warn of potentially harmful changes in environment.  Located mostly in the epidermis and epithelial covering of certain mucous membranes.

7. Rhodopsin  Located in the retina  Responsible for the formation of photoreceptor cells and the first events in the color of light  Uses cell signaling to absorb and translocate light
