GIFT OF ART When Henri was 22 he became ill with appendicitis – that left him bedridden for a year. His mother gave him a set of oil paints….Henri was hooked. “when I first started to paint, I felt transported into a kind of paradise…In everyday life I was usually bored by what people were always telling me what to do. Starting to paint I felt gloriously free, quiet and alone.”

DRAWING WITH SCISSORS In 1941, at the age of 72 Henri became ill again. He could not stand for long, and he could barely hold a brush… Did he quit or give up? He began creating “cut-outs” Cut paper on canvas…..

PATTERN - LAYER PATTERN – a pattern is created when something is repeated LAYER – to place different mediums on top of each other

TODAY’S PROJECT Black paper for back drop Choose three (3) papers for geometric shapes Choose two (2) papers for organic shapes Use pattern to lay out geometric shapes. Glue in place. Layer organic shapes on top. Glue in place.
