12
2009-2010 Distance Education Faculty Technology Workshop Grading Assessments Manually You will need to grade an assessment manually if: –the assessment includes a paragraph question –a student successfully defends an incorrect response on a question –a question was originally scored incorrectly. You can manually grade questions in two ways: –grade by student (click Attempt) –grade by question (Powerlinks menu > Grade all Attempts)
13
2009-2010 Distance Education Faculty Technology Workshop Suggestions for successful quizzing Create a practice quiz in your class…give 1 or 2 points just for taking it If you use paragraph questions that require long answers, perhaps suggest they write them in MS word or some other application before pasting in the text field (if this fits your situation) Question feedback is good for learning! Make it easy on yourself: re-use questions; use the “base on” option
14
2009-2010 Distance Education Faculty Technology Workshop Successful quizzing tips contd. Concerned about cheating? –Make your quizzes many and frequent –Make them “low stakes” –Use availability settings, duration settings, proctor password (depending on your situation) –Create “randomized quizzes” (using question sets) – everyone gets a different quiz –Don’t release the answers in your results (but will this “decrease” learning?)
