My friend Pippa and I organised a copper hunt at school last term, where each class collected as many 1p and 2p pieces as it could. (The class with the most won a prize.) Everyone searched in jars, under cushions and in cars. Relatives, neighbours and friends all seemed happy to donate their coppers.Notebook, April 26 Altogether we collected 39,000 coins and raised £565.75 for Great Ormond Street Hospital’s children’s charity. Coppers could be a gold mine for charities if lots of schools and clubs did the same. And the Royal Mint would get some of its pennies back.
