2. Today’s Goal Teachers will continue to develop a better understanding of the trajectory of fraction concepts K-5 by doing the math and reading the Common Core Progressions document on fractions.

4. Private Reasoning Time Take about 10 minutes Everyone works on problems 1-3 and an additional problem that I will assign your table for you to work on individual. Remember….. Draw a picture to solve each problem. Work to make sure your pictures match the context. Check your answer by writing and solving an equation.

5. Go-Around-All Share ideas about problems 1-3. When everyone in group is finished sharing, discuss what is the same and different mathematically about your visuals and how you represented the equation (number sentence). What repeated regularity do you notice?

6. Making Connections Connect your representations (visual model and equation).  How are the numbers in your equation represented in your visual?  How does your visual representation model multiplication?

7. Create Poster Create a poster as a team on your assigned problem. Record a conjecture your team has about what is always/never true about multiplying fractions. How can you justify your conjecture.

8. Pairs of Groups Share How are your ideas similar and different mathematically?

9. Summary How can we justify this conjecture?

10. Before we finish… Please fill out the exit slip and leave on the center of your table before you leave. Next week you will continue working in your own building with your principal on these fractions concepts.
