Purpose of Presentation To communicate the role of the Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) and begin to share information related to Athletics with the college campus as the newly appointed FAR for SUNY College @ Oneonta. Role/Responsibilities of FAR FAR required by NCAA at each member institution Must be a faculty member Appointed by the President of the College: Dr. Nancy Kleniewski upon recommendation of the Intercollegiate Athletics Board (IAB) for a three-year renewable term Give surety to academic integrity, student athlete well-being and the integration of athletics and academics on campus Work with and communicate information to the President, Vice President and Associate Vice President for Student Development, Athletic Director, Athletics Department, Faculty Senate, Faculty and Student Athletes. Represent SUNY Oneonta at NCAA, SUNYAC, and FARO SUNY College at Oneonta Department of Athletics ____________________________________________________

Mission Statement “The mission of the Department of Athletics is to develop exemplary scholar-athletes: individuals who strive for competitive excellence, academic achievement, and a commitment to service. Intercollegiate athletics is sponsored as an educationally purposeful activity which embraces and instills positive ideals. The College @ Oneonta Athletics Program Fast Facts Provides support/programming to 450 student-athletes 21 varsity teams/15 head coaches This past year 69 students were 2 sport athletes and 33 were three- sport athletes Intramural and Recreation programming offered 13 participatory team activities supporting 22 championships (64% student body participation) Students involved in recreation through independent offerings such as aerobic classes, kickboxing, and yoga. 108,000 entries in the fitness center last year culture of fitness SUNY College at Oneonta Department of Athletics _________________________________________________________

Division III: A win-win for SUNY Oneonta Academics-> Winning College Experience -> Winning Season Priorities & Evidence Academics come first GPA o Spring/Fall 2009 for Student-Athletes 3.01 vs 3.0 non-Athletes Awards o 202 Student-Athletes recognized SUNYAC All-Academic Team & Commissioner List Members o 24 Chi Alpha Sigma National Student-Athlete Honor Society Inductees o 3 SUNYAC Chancellor Scholar-Athletes (one received this honor 3x first in SUNYAC history) o 4 National All-America Scholar Teams (Field Hockey, Swimming, M/W Track) SUNY College at Oneonta Department of Athletics _________________________________________________________

Division III: A win-win for SUNY Oneonta Priorities & Evidence Academics – continued Faculty Mentorship Program o 15 campus faculty team /individual academic advisement Grad Rate o Reported 6 year grad rate: student-athletes (entire college career) 100% women, 98% men Retention Rate o 2008-2009: 97.9% 20% Freshman class o Survey results show #1 reason student-athletes choose Oneonta is academics, athletics close second. Division III: A win-win for SUNY Oneonta Winning college experience Volunteer Hours o 2009-2010: 6,250 community service hours performed by student athletes Fundraising Efforts o 11 different charity events o Student-Athletes traveled to Peru and New Orleans to partcipate in Humanity Relief Efforts Winning season Top 3 in SUNYAC (#1 Cortland, #2 Geneseo, #3 Oneonta) Overall most winning athletic program of the year SUNY College at Oneonta Department of Athletics _________________________________________________________

Program Accountability NCAA requires self-study every 5 years to maintain eligibility to compete. (Last self-study completed in 2008) NCAA requires Gender-Equity Study annually. Federal law requires EADA Report (Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act) annually to receive federal funding.
