OMG! Algebra is easy. First, an “expression” is just a number sentence. For example, if you wanted to buy the Wii games and you didn’t know how much these games cost you could show this “number expression” by writing 3 x _________. The blank is there because it’s what you don’t know, the cost of each game. With algebra, instead of a blank you put a letter. It could be any letter X, Z, G… Usually the letter is the first letter of the thing you talking about. So to write an algebraic expression you would write: 3 x C. 3 because you want 3 games and C because you don’t know the Cost of each game.

Mrs. Sweetland gives 3 bonus points for each extra-credit problem correctly completed. If b stands for the number of extra-credit problems correctly completed, which expression is equal to the total number of bonus points? a. b x 3b. b + 3 c. b ÷ 3d. b - 3 e. 3 > b It can’t be b because b+3 would not be the right score. It can’t be c because b/3 would still not be the right score. It can’t be d because b-3 would still not be the right score. It can’t be e because 3>b would still not be the right score. It can be a because bx3 would be the right score.

You know how to find the sum of the angles of a polygon. The sum of the angles for a triangle (3 sides) is 180. The sum of the angles of a quadrilateral (4 sides) is 360. The sum of the angles of a pentagon (5 sides) is 540. If “S” is the amount of sides, which expression can be used to illustrate this way of finding the sum of the angles of any polygon. A.(S – 2) * 180 B.S + (2 + 180) C. 180 * S D. (360 x 2) 90 45 90 180 You add up the angles and the sum for any triangle is 180 +

90 360 You add up the angles and the sum for any square or rectangle or 4 sided figure and the sum is 360 90 110 100 120 You add up the angles and the sum for any 5 sided figure and the sum is 540 110 100 120 540

How much fencing is needed to go around the perimeter of this yard? 50+75=125 65+35=100

How much sod is needed to cover this yard? 35+65=100 50+75=125 125+100=225

One angle of a RIGHT triangle is 30 degrees. Which expression shows how to find the measure of the third angle? 30 90 ??? A.3* 180=A B.3 * 90 + 60=A C.(360 / 3) - 90 D.180 – 90 – 30=A 540 330 30 60

Calvin’s little brother jumped up and down. “Here they come!” shouted Calvin. Around the corner came the Thanksgiving Day Parade. Half of the people were on floats; 25% were in marching bands; clowns made up 1/8; TV stars made up 1/16; and there were 10 city officials, or 1/16. How many people were in the parade, and how many were in each group?
