3 Types of enrichment opportunity 3 Extraction - A special, one – off session for Gifted and Talented pupils exploring an area of interest or a new subject in depth. Support within class – Assistants, outside experts or mentors work alongside pupils during lessons to provide extra stimulus and introduce or mediate new material etc. Self-directed projects – Teachers reward the high achieving gifted and talented pupil by asking them to design and undertake their own in-depth projects in a relevant area of interest. Homework enrichment – Pupils are given challenging tasks which move beyond material covered in class. Access to enrichment materials – Pupils are loaned additional material or given access to electronic means of research.

4 Opportunities to work with talented adults or older peers - This might include master classes or special workshops run by visiting groups or experts. Clubs and societies – Ideally a range should be available in a school, covering academic and other interests. Visits – This includes specialist visitors to the school as well as visits to see specialists or places of interest. School newspapers, radio stations, subject based magazines Competitions and quizzes ‘Festive days’ or festivals Suspension of the normal timetable – lessons are suspense for activities on a particular theme 4
