Accelerated Reader(AR) At the beginning of each trimester, your child will take the STAR assessment test. Based on their scores, your child will be given their zone of proximal development(ZPD). Point goals are given based on the ZPD. Students read AR books within their zone (AR Book finder). Once completed, they will take the computerized tests. These tests can be taken in my classroom, before school in the school library, or during lunch in the computer lab. If a book is worth 10 points and they score 90%, they receive 90% of the possible points (9 points). Students are given a halfway point goal as well as an end of the trimester point goal. Students strive to meet the point goal for each trimester, which is part of their Language Arts grade. Renaissance Home Connect letter-will be sent home with your child’s username and password. You can sign up to receive e-mails showing your child’s quiz or test results. Link is located on my website. Halfway point and trimester goal will be recorded in gradebook.

E Period
25
Why? To better support all students Intervention, Study Skills, AR Reading, and Enrichment
26
Intervention Mathematics or English-Language Arts Support for meeting academic proficiency in one or both of these areas. Student placement is based upon assessments given (AR, fluency, grades, and other assessments).
27
Study Skills Students may be placed in a study hall E period, if they are failing to complete and turn in their work on time. Students work on organization and responsibility. Students can check their grades on-line to view missing assignments, and they are able to work on getting caught up.
28
AR Reading Class Students below expected AR progress. Students read AR book daily to help achieve AR trimester goal. AR Tests can be taken during this time. Teacher monitored!
29
Enrichment Students who are meeting grade level standards in math and language arts Enrichment classes are based on content areas and teacher. Students sign up from a select menu. Enrichment classes rotate every six weeks.
30
Changing Classes It is possible for students to exit an E period designed for intervention by showing consistent growth in E period, increasing AR level, as well as passing the core academic courses. It is also possible for students who start in an Enrichment class to be placed in a targeted instruction, study skills, or AR reading class, if their test scores or organizational skills show they need extra help.
