3. Student Success Plan (SSP)
As required by the Connecticut State Department of Education, as of July 1, 2012 all students are required to have a Student Success Plan (SSP). The SSP is an individualized student driven plan that will be developed to address every student’s needs and interests to help every student stay connected in school and to achieve postsecondary educational and career goals. The SSP will begin in the 6th grade and continue through high school to provide the student support and assistance in setting goals within each of the core components.
Core Components:
Academic Development
Career Development
Social/Emotional/Physical Development
At CHS these core components will be addressed across disciplines including Core and Electives courses, the Comprehensive School Counseling Program and Enrichment and Advisory activities.
Grade 10
Topics: Review of Graduation Requirements, SAT Prep Resources (College Board, Naviance), Study Skills, Course Selection, Team Building, Summer Enrichment Program Opportunities, Survival and Safety Skills Including Internet Safety, Managing Stress, Respect for Self and Others, Fitness Goals
Activities/Assessments: MAPS Assessments (Reading, Writing, Math), CAPT, PSAT, Myers Briggs “Do What You Are” Personality Inventory (Naviance), Sophomore Goals & Interest Survey, CT Physical Fitness Assessment

4. Graduation Credits
Students must receive credit in the following areas for graduation:
English 4 credits
Mathematics 4 credits
Social Studies 3 credits* (including 1 credit in World Understanding, credit in US History and a Civics requirement)
Science 3 credits* (including Biology/Lab)
Physical Education 1 credit
Arts/Vocational 1 credit
Electives 8.5 credits
Health education credits
Total: credits (minimum)
*(Colleges/Universities recommend 4 years)
 *It is strongly recommended that all students at Coventry High School enroll in a World Language course. Most colleges and universities require at least two years of the same World Language to be completed at the high school level as a requirement for admission.

5. Summer Programs
Review Summer Enrichment Opportunities listed in Naviance and see if any programs are of interest to you
Remember colleges and universities like to see students that have been involved in various and enriching activities. Many area colleges and organizations have summer programs that are available to high school students in a variety of areas. These are great activities to list on a Resume!
