Why the need for change? The national changes: GCSEs are changing More focus on core subject Less Controlled Assessments More content led KS4 curriculum Changes to the KS3 National Curriculum New assessments and grading system

What are the new changes to HA? The school timetable to change from 4 lessons a day to 5 day lessons a day. Each lesson will be one hour long. To have a 2 year Key stage 3 Curriculum and a 3 year KS4 Curriculum. Increase curriculum time for the core subjects (English, Maths and Science). Replace PSHEE and with Enrichment days.

Enrichment days The Enrichment programme can be described as ‘learning to live life well.’ The Enrichment programme at The High Arcal School will help develop the knowledge, understanding and skills young people need to manage their lives, now and in the future. All students will be off timetable for a whole day each term. Students will be in year/tutor groups Students will take part in a rotation of Workshop style sessions through-out the collapsed timetable time. The dates for the new Enrichment days are as follows: Thursday 24 th September 2015 Friday 20 th November 2015 Wed 24 th February 2015 Tuesday 15 th March 2015 Monday 18th April 2015

What are the new changes to HA? No bells between lessons. The Options process will take place in year 8 (not year 9). Changes to year 9 & 10 uniform. New timetable to be implemented W/C 6 th July 2015. New grading system to be introduced for year 7 – 10.
