5 NATCEP Instructors 310:677-3-3(c)(7) Every Subchapter identifies the instructor qualifications for that category

6 LTC NATCEP Instructors cont 310:677-11-3(a) LTC program – By or under the general supervision of a Register Nurse who has: –2 years nursing experience with at least one year in LTC facility services.

7 LTC NATCEP Instructors cont Completed a course in teaching adults or Experience in teaching adults or Supervising Nurse Aides

8 LTC Facility defined by the Code of Federal Regulations at §483.5 and Section 1819 and Section 1919 of the Social Security Act.

9 LTC Facility Services Skilled Nursing Facility/Nursing Facility Skilled nursing care and related services for residents who require medical or nursing care, Rehabilitation services for the rehabilitation of injured, disabled, or sick persons, or

10 LTC Facility Services cont. On a regular basis, health-related care and services to individuals who because of their mental or physical condition require care and services (above the level of room and board) which can be made available to them only through institutional facilities, and

11 LTC Facility Services cont. The institution must have had in effect a transfer agreement with one or more hospitals. Services may also have been provided in any facility, which is located in a State on an Indian reservation and is certified by the Secretary as meeting the requirements of nursing facilities.

12 What does this mean? Identify education and experience requirements for supervisors and instructors, and the program’s procedure to ensure requirements are met. Include on the Addendum to ensure compliance with Federal and State Regulations.

13 Alzheimer’s Curriculum 63 O.S. § 1-1951(A)(3) The Department shall require training to include a minimum of 10 hrs of training in the care of Alzheimer’s patients

14 Alzheimer’s Curriculum cont. State Regulations in Chapter 677 at 310:677-11-4(b)(4) – The training program shall include training in the care of cognitively impaired residents. Regulation is general and not specific to training topics.

15 Alzheimer’s Curriculum cont. The Code of Federal Regulations at §483.152(b)(5) requires that the curriculum include: –Care of cognitively impaired residents:

16 Alzheimer’s Curriculum cont. §483.152(b)(5)(i-v) to include (specifically): Techniques for addressing the unique needs and behaviors of individuals with dementia (Alzheimer’s and others); Communicating with cognitively impaired residents;

17 Alzheimer’s Curriculum cont. Understanding the behavior of cognitively impaired residents Appropriate responses to the behavior of cognitively impaired residents; and Methods of reducing the effects of cognitive impairments.

18 What does this mean? Identify time devoted to the curriculum and training topics. (Minimum 10 hours) Include on the addendum to ensure compliance with the law.

21 What does this mean? Identify procedure to ensure that all trainees testing have a signed affidavit PRIOR to or at test administration. Include procedure on the addendum to ensure compliance with the law. May maintain original copy of affidavit with the testing records for 3 years.

22 CMA Renewal Renew every 12 months Requires 8 hours of CEU – Dept approved program $5.00 nonrefundable fee Copy of Certificate of Attendance Recertification Application

23 CMA Renewal cont Have to retest if certification expired more than 1 year May retest only 1 time Not eligible to attend advanced CMA training if CMA certification expired

24 CMA Renewal cont Not eligible to attend CEU program if basic certification is expired May not be eligible to renew basic certification at all May not renew CMA if more than 12 months since last attended a CEU program
