 Introduction  Measurement equipment  Ozone layer  UV Index  Results  Ozone layer  UV Index  Conclusion

“Good” ozone is formed in the stratosphere, about 20-50 km above the Earth Ozone layer protects the Earth from harmful Sun’s UV radiation

Natural process of ozone production in the stratosphere BUT … Human activities and emission of various gases (nitrogen oxides, CFC etc) into the atmosphere destroy ozone layer X = Cl, Br, F …

Depletion of ozone layer causes increased intensity of UV radiation HARMFUL EFFECTS ECO SYSTEMSMATERIALSHUMANS AND ANIMALS SKIN Redenning Premature aging Melanoma and other cancers EYES Snow blindness Cataracta Eye cancers IMMUNE SYSTEM - Suppression

Solar Light Microtops Ozonemeter II Measures ozone layer thickness based on the absorption of Sun’s light at three wavelenghts YES - Ultraviolet Pyranometer Model UVB-1, Yankee Environmental Systems Inc.

Ozone layer thickness does not show significant seasonal changes during the years of monitoring (2007 – 2011). The exceptions are the periods during October 2010 and October-December 2011 when values below 220 DU were recorded. These values correspond to the ozone hole. We do not have explanation for this appearance, in the moment. Possible explanation is pollution from unknown source, local, but more probable the distant one …

Results of UV radiation monitoring in the period 2003 -2011. Maximal values are recorded during the period end of June – beginning of July. Recorded values are about 9 in that period. No significant changes from year to year have been noticed.

ON THE BASIS OF PRESENTED MONITORING ACTIVITIES:  NO SIGNIFICANT CHANGES IN OZONE LAYER THICKNESS OR SUN’S RADIATION INTENSITY HAVE BEEN RECORDED DURING THE CRITICAL PERIOD OF HIGH UV LEVEL (SUMMER)  EXCEPTION IS THE PERIOD DURING OCTOBER 2010 AND END OF THE YEAR 2011 WHEN UNUSUALLY LOW VALUES OF OZONE LAYER THICKNES WERE RECORDED
