Body cannot produce insulin or enough insulin Insulin is needed to convert sugar into energy

Body does produce insulin but your body doesn’t use it properly Called “insulin resistance.” Body stops producing insulin or doesn’t produce enough

Type 1 – Genetic, you’re born with it. Type 2 – Acquired ◦ Obesity ◦ Malnutrition ◦ Lack of exercise Type 2 used to be called adult onset diabetes but now it’s called type 2 because it’s happening to younger and younger people.

Type 2 ◦ Too much sugar and fat in food can lead to weight gain and cause type 2 diabetes ◦ Too much weight carried in belly increases chance of type 2 ◦ Your pancreas gets worn out when it has to make insulin constantly to combat a diet high in sugar and carbohydrates
