10 Selective Highlighting/Underlining Have students preview the material without a highlighter first: – Read introductory paragraph – Note bold headings – Examine pictures/graphs/charts – Read concluding paragraph

11 Selective Highlighting/Underlining Re-read one paragraph at a time and begin highlighting/underlining key words or phrases. You may have the students underline different concepts in different colors – For example: pink = vocabulary words, yellow = main idea, blue = details, etc.
