3 Cargo Overview The Port of Gulfport has gained a solid reputation as the second largest importer of green fruit in the United States and the 2nd busiest container port on the US Gulf of Mexico. In CY 2009, the Port of Gulfport handled over 2.04 million tons of cargo, 200,620 TEU’s and 246 vessels.

15 Future of the Port of Gulfport Restoration of the Port of Gulfport has been accelerated significantly in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. MSPA has designed a RESTORATION PROGRAM for the development of critical infrastructure and the creation of thousands of jobs. Once the program is completed, the Port of Gulfport will be one of the largest and most efficient ports in the United States.

16 Marine Traffic Forecast The data indicate that the Port’s total volume of all cargo is estimated to grow from the current level of 2.3 million short tons to over 6.7 million short tons by the year 2040. In terms of TEUs, the data indicates that the Port’s Total TEU volume is estimated to grow from the current level of approximately 220,000 TEUs to more than 2.3 million TEUs by the year 2040.
