Narrative Essay: Body Paragraph The body paragraph will... Develop, support, explain and/or prove your THESIS statement; Be written in the PAST tense; Include NINE very specific sentences (no more/less).
2
Narrative Essay: Body Paragraph The first sentence will INTRODUCE your situation/moment, but this sentence WILL NOT be identical to any sentence in your introductory paragraph. Example Sentence: The storm outside our home had been raging for a while, and it seemed distant until lightning struck the rooftop.
3
Narrative Essay: Body Paragraph Your body paragraph must contain FOUR sensory-detailed sentences. [Think taste, touch/feel, see, hear, smell] These sentences will also aid in telling your story.
4
Narrative Essay: Body Paragraph sight--My house burning wildly lit up the dark sky and called all of our neighbors out of their slumber to witness our devastation. sound--Walls that once displayed our family’s pictures began crumbling and then the second story of my home came crashing down with the mere ashes of my possessions. touch--I frantically reached for my brother’s hand which felt smaller in that moment, and he gripped my arm in terror as the heat from the flames burned our faces. smell--Black smoke bellowed out of the windows and its stench escaped up my nostrils suffocating me. [No taste example given; however, feel free to write your own]

Narrative Essay: Body Paragraph One of your body paragraph sentences must contain figurative language in the form of either a simile or a metaphor. Example “Simile” Sentence: We watched our home disappear before our eyes like a fading rainbow after the rain. Example “Metaphor” Sentence: The next day’s ashes were a reminder of things lost but also a reminder of how much we still had.
6
Narrative Essay: Body Paragraph Two of your sentences will be used to explain the connection between you and your chosen ROTHMC character. Example Sentence: This experience was similar to Stacey’s because like him, I witnessed a helpless situation that showed me the reality of life. Example Sentence: Much like Stacey, I felt my family depended on me to be a leader and help my siblings understand the changes we would experience.
7
Narrative Essay: Body Paragraph Finally, you will have one “closing” sentence that brings a logical end to your story. Example Sentence: I thought my life was over the night my home was lost to a fire, but little did I know how much I would gain and even carry with me today.
