TITLE: What Angels Can Teach Us TOPIC: What we can learn from angels about how to live. TEXT: Revelation 5 THEME: Angels can teach us the nature and significance of worship.
4
If Jesus is truly God and his kingdom is not of this world how do we learn about how to understand and live in the spiritual realm?
6
What can the angels teach us about life?
7
I.We are engaged in a spiritual war and are on the winning side (Rev. 19:11-14)
8
The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil God made us as moral agents and because he wants us to love Him. Love requires a choice on our part. It requires the option of an alternative not to love- God never forces Himself on us, nor forces us to love and obey Him- it has to be our decision. The one forbidden tree is that alternative man had to demonstrate his love for God.
9
I.We are engaged in a spiritual war and are on the winning side (Rev. 19:11-14) A. Christ is the ultimate victor.
10
I Corinthians 15 54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” 55 “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?”
11
I Corinthians 15 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
12
Revelation 19:11-14 “11 I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and wages war. 12 His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself.
13
Revelation 19:11-14 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. 14 The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean.”
14
I.We are engaged in a spiritual war and are on the winning side (Rev. 19:11-14) A. Christ is the ultimate victor. B.The battle is daily and requires our constant awareness.

16
Romans 7. 21 So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22 For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; 23 but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me.
17
Romans 7. 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? 25 Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!

II.Swift obedience to God is a joy, not an inconvenience (Ps. 103).
21
In Psalm 103: 20 Praise the LORD, you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey his word. 21 Praise the LORD, all his heavenly hosts, you his servants who do his will. 22 Praise the LORD, all his works everywhere in his dominion.
22
II.Swift obedience to God is a joy, not an inconvenience (Ps. 103). A. Wings symbolize the swiftness with which angels respond.

III.Worship is a way of life, not a time of the week. (Rev. 4)
27
Revelation 4 “In the center, around the throne, were four living creatures, and they were covered with eyes, in front and in back. 7 The first living creature was like a lion, the second was like an ox, the third had a face like a man, the fourth was like a flying eagle.
28
Revelation 4 8 Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under its wings. Day and night they never stop saying: “‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty,’ who was, and is, and is to come.”
29
III.Worship is a way of life, not a time of the week. (Rev. 4) A.Angels are awful and that’s good. Our word “awful” has seen a dramatic change of meaning over the years. In its original sense it had the idea of “filled with awe” or “full of awe.” This describes these angels around the throne of heaven.
30
III.Worship is a way of life, not a time of the week. (Rev. 4) A.Angels are awful and that’s good B.Everything we do is for the glory of God.
31
I Corinthians 10 31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
32
I Corinthians 10 31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” Even the mundane things of life should be done with the idea of worship.
33
Psalm 113 “From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the LORD is to be praised.”
34
Psalm 113 “From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the LORD is to be praised.” The Psalmist is saying we are to praise God at all times and in all places.
36
APPLICATION You are in a spiritual battle. Angels are aware and involved in the battle and fighting on our behalf against the forces of Satan. We are every bit as much involved in the same battle. It is a battle that Christ has already won but in which Satan continues to do damage. For believers we are guaranteed to be on the winning side.
37
APPLICATION Angels teach that obedience to God is a joy and an honor. It is not “cramping your style” or “being your own boss.” We were created to worship and serve God and we will never find our fulfillment and purpose until that time.
38
APPLICATION Angels teach us that worship is a way of life. Everything we think, say and do should be for the glory of God and we should constantly give God the praise he deserves.
