What are the Student's Roles and Responsibilities? Select a topic they are passionate about Seek out a mentor, if appropriate Follow the guidelines as detailed in the "Student Guide" Initiate and document frequent communication with assigned supervisor Can be face-to-face or through ManageBac Seek help/advice from Personal Project Coordinator as needed Keep up with deadlines and due dates

WHAT ARE PARENTS' ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITES? Discuss the project with your child to understand the goal Sign Parental Consent/Liability Waiver form (App. of Student Guide) Acquire your student's ManageBac user name and log-in information Log-in to ManageBac to see communication, deadlines, due dates, etc. Do not micromanage

Who Does What to Support the Process? Personal Project Coordinator Mr. Philip Scafidi Organizes systems that supervisors and students need for the successful completion of the project i.e. Creates/updates the "Student Guide"; Facilitates ManageBac; Face-to-face meetings during classtime; Assigns supervisors; Trains Supervisors; Serves on the Assessment Panel

(con't) The Supervisor Supports the students assigned to him/her throughout the project Which includes: Ensuring the chosen topic satisfies appropriate legal and ethical standards Providing guidance in the process and completion of the project Confirming the authenticity of the work submitted Assessing the MYP project using the established criteria Providing formative feedback on all aspects of the project utilizing the ManageBac Interface

Who Does What? (con't) The Mentor: Is an expert from the community Provides support and access to extended skills and knowledge related to the project topic The Mentor: Is STRONGLY encouraged, but Is not a requirement for successful completion of the project Does not assess the project

With Moderation Comes New Guidelines for Scoring and... The Criteria 4 Criteria Maximum score of 8 per Reporting of Scores: “P” or “NP”** **Any projects receiving a “NP” will be reviewed by a MYP Admin Panel from MMS, NVS, SIHS & District Per the IB From "Projects Guide" "In schools in which the MYP finishes with year 5 of the programme, all students must complete the personal project, with the majority of their work undertaken in the final MYP year" "Successful completion of the personal project is a requirement for awarding the IB MYP certificate."
