Why new development agenda? Progress on MDGs uneven on global level; Multiple crises, rising challenges of complex nature and heightened uncertaintiy; Fissures in current development model (spreading inequality, slackening growth, environmental risks); Vulnerable and poor lack voice;

Key questions: How to ensure that the global economy (and national economies) continues to grow? How to ensure this growth occurs in inclusive manner and its benefits are equitably distributed across and within the countries? How to ensure this growth leads to lessening environmental stress: growth and resulting choices are fairly distributed among generations?

“Key pre-requisites: considers the new underlying development trends; needs to be informed by the perspectives of people from all parts of the world, including poor people, meaning what we need is not just MDG 2.0. As the process unfolds this list should not be treated as an exhaustive one.

UNDG-led national consultations Objectives: Engage with the intergovernmental process by amplifying the voices of the poor Outputs: Clear recommendations for governments Who coordinates at country level? UN Resident Coordinators (UNRCs) will provide overall strategic guidance
