2 IT’S WEDNESDAY! You have a couple more SEEP rotations! Your final draft position paper is due Thursday March 19 @ 2:10 Our goal is to do some really good thinking and research…

3 WELCOME TO THE SEEP ROTATION! Social = social/cultural behaviors, relationships, membership, class, religious, organization Environmental = destruction, costs, land use Economic = use of resources, jobs, supply/scarcity, global economy Political = governance, human rights, policy, regulations, law, diplomacy, agreements

4 ECONOMICS What do we mean by an ‘economic lens’?

5 ECONOMICS- BROAD QUESTIONS 25 MINUTES 1.What do you already know about your topic in relation to ECONOMICS? 2.What assumptions do you have based on your topic in relation to ECONOMICS? 3.What role does ECONOMICS have in your topic? 4.What are the implications of ECONOMICS for your topic? (effects and consequences)

6 DEEPER QUESTIONS 25 MINUTES 5.What significant changes within this SEEP (Economics) has had the most significant impact on your topic of interest? (e.g. portion sizes have quadrupled in the last 20 years ) 6.What connections within SEEPs exist for your topic of interest? (do you see a connection between the politics and the environment for example?) 7.What do you need to know moving forward about your topic in relation to this area? Begin to now research this list you create This is your Homework! Get that research done!

7 LONG WRITE 30 minutes Students now begin a ‘long write’ in which they write as much as they can about what they have discovered/uncovered/researched.

8 PHASE 2: POSITION PAPER You now have a special interest Childhood Obesity, Sustainable Farming, Meat Industry lobbying, etc. You are going to now examine your topic through 4 different lenses Social = Heckmann Environmental = Hundley Economic = Zeman Political = Wegener

9 PHASE 2: SO WHAT NOW? What : writing a paper based on a special interest Where : rotate through the same GIS rotation Who : teachers are providing a different lens to look at your paper through (SEEP) Why : solidify your information and take a position! When : March 12-20; final draft due March 20 How : students craft ideas and look at their special interest using a series of questions
