Key areas for work Reducing health inequalities in health is the overarching priority for Aberdeenshire –Early Years –Mental health and well being –Tobacco –Alcohol and other drugs –Health eating active living –Building capacity

Deeside Health Profile Overall Deeside have a large number of health indicators that are better than the Scotland average with the majority being significantly better However, chronic disease and conditions such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and high blood pressure are highlighted

Cairngorms East Populations here are covered here by Ballater and Braemar practices with a more elderly population Show levels of: –Stroke for hospital patients –Early deaths from CHD –Early deaths from cancer –Patients registered with cancer –Mothers smoking during pregnancy –Low weight live births –Unintentional injuries in the home – patients <15

NHS is largely downstream focussed - dealing with the consequences of poor health Need upstream approaches to reduce the likelihood of poor health in the first instance. Wide range of stakeholders have a role.

Community Capacity Building Community Led Health is an approach to health concerned with supporting communities to identify what is important to them about their health. Aberdeenshire Public Health has worked with SCDC (Scottish Community Development Council) to encourage and support community led approaches offering training raising awareness and practical support to frontline staff.
