September 25, 2011 You Need: You Need: – Pen – 1 piece of paper (middle table) – On the Agenda: “Blind Contour” drawing: Did you bring your paper towels?? We will do Divergent Thinking activity later this week.
2
Blind Contour Drawing Drawing without looking at your paper! Try not to lift up your pen. You’ll lose your place. No cheating (it can be tempting, but be honest for yourself). The point is NOT to have a perfect drawing but to LOOK CAREFULLY at the edges of all the shapes & “feel” them with your eyes. Drawing is an exercising in SEEING & observation! Let’s see examples…
4
Now YOU try: Relax, go slowly, look carefully. Focus on the outside edges.
5
OVERLAP this one over the hippo. Draw right over it. It’s okay.
6
Overlap this one too
10
Overlapping is okay! It’s even good.
11
The weird drawings you ended up with aren’t important, it’s HOW you got there. Did you carefully look at all the edges? Did you concentrate & FEEL what you were drawing with your eyes?
12
Tomorrow: Art 1 – Observational Drawing: Drawing from real life objects – Blind Contours & “Regular” drawing Sculpture – Use these shapes to begin a free drawing This drawing will eventually be cut apart & put back together as a 3-D art work. More later.
