CONTEXT Biogenetical, socio-cultural and socio-economic factors affect migrants’ health. Data on female migrants’ sexual heath and maternal health. Access to health care. Use of modern contraceptive methods. Maternal health and pregnancy outcomes. STIs and HIV/AIDS prevalence. Sexual violence prevalence.

DATA ON REGIONAL CONTEXT 70% of female migrants are in their reproductive age Higher fertility rates (Costa Rica: 40%). Higher unwanted fertility rates (Colombia, Peru, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic). Less access and use of SRH services (Belize, Nicaragua, Peru, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic). Less information on HIV prevention (Belize, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic). 60-70% of female undocumented migrants have suffered from violence.

REGIONAL INITIATIVE (2) Regional initiative for the promotion of the human rights of migrants, particularly the right to SR health, including HIV/AIDS and sexual violence, of female and young migrants. Period of implementation: 2008-2011. Geographic focus: Mexico-Guatemala. Nicaragua-Costa Rica. Dominican Republic-Haiti. Ecuador-Colombia. Bolivia-Argentina.

STRATEGIC LINES Situation analysis, strengthening of information systems, and creation of a regional knowledge platform. Review of the existing normative in the area of the right to health of migrants. Evidence-based advocacy and policy dialogue. Strengthening of national capacities. Support to institutional cooperation and coordination. Strengthening of SRH services for female and young migrants.
