C ONFLICT A disagreement between people with opposing ideas or opinions An expressed struggle within one self or between at least two interdependent parties who perceive a threat to their needs, interests and concerns.

I NTRAPERSONAL C ONFLICT It will occur within one self. According to Prof. Md. Abdul Hannan MIA, intrapersonal conflict occurs when there is incompatibility and inconsistency among an individual’s cognitive elements.

W HAT CAUSES INTRAPERSONAL CONFLICT ? To do or not to do, that is the question. Conscience The person is forced to do something he/ she dislikes, but the person does not dare to go against it. Dilemma

W HAT CAUSES INTERPERSONAL CONFLICT ? Prejudice Conflicts are based on emotions and feelings, and are more of a personal attack. One might have prejudice because of jealousy, dissatisfaction,and envious.

Personal Differences Every person carries a unique personalities and often incompatible in term of values, perceptions and expectations.

Informational Deficiencies Communications are not always received. Miscommunication Messages are misinterpreted or different conclusions may be drawn based on past experiences.

Role Incompatibility Different roles carry different responsibilities and goals assigned to an individual and what the individual would rather be doing.

Environmental Stress Stress makes people sensitive, moody, easily offended and pressure For instance, uncertainty of future events and scarcity of resources, such as food or money, can lead to disputes among otherwise friendly individuals

T YPES OF RESOLUTION Compromising – Each party tolerates - Satisfaction but not satisfied - Can result into lose-lose / win-win - Each party gives up something in order to meet midway.

T YPES OF R ESOLUTION Collaborating - Win-win situation - To achieve a better solution than either individual could have achieve alone. - Good for complex problems. - Each person’s position is clear.

T YPES OF R ESOLUTION Accommodating - It is a priority to maintain the relationship. - Issue is relatively unimportant. - Person tries to solve the problem by denying its existence. - Win-lose result.

T YPES OF R ESOLUTION Negotiation - Discuss the conflict between parties involved - Ground rules will be laid out to prevent another conflict being arises from the discussion - Goal is to reach agreement to settle the conflict

T YPES OF R ESOLUTION Community conferencing - Best used when it is a community type setting, involving more than two parties. - A main facilitator is in charge of the meeting and they invite people to come forward to talk about how the dispute affected them.

T YPES OF R ESOLUTION Mediation - Process that involves a neutral third party(someone who is trained in conflict resolution) to help people discuss the issues that are going on - Help people to reach an agreement based on the issues at hand.
