Purpose of moderation To provide assurance that: assessments are fair, valid and at the national standard teachers are making consistent judgements about student performance.
4
Submitting material for moderation Moderation cover sheet Task, marking schedule and student work- 4 samples for Unit Standards and 8 for Achievement Standards Any additional explanatory notes (for example if assessing 90252 by portfolio of practical work) Optional teacher-selected assessed work for professional feedback

Teacher-selected assessed work Teachers can send additional samples of student work to ask a specific question of the moderator Up to four additional samples can be submitted – these must be for the same standard as is being moderated Paired samples on either side of a grade boundary would help to determine that boundary Feedback is given separately and not included in the moderation report

Using an assessment task Best practice: element-by-element check against the standard before use Commercial resources - check for the latest version Generic schedules (e.g. TKI) must be customised with evidence statements to include examples of all evidence on which judgements are to be made.
