2 Why is Fidel Castro considered a leader? he has better Cuba at certain points. He made health care affordable Education available to all. making Sports highly sponsored and cared for.

3 Who were his followers?  Liborio Noval  José Ramón Machado  Raul Castro  The people who thought he was a great leader.  The negative people that wanted the worst for their country.  communist

4 How’s he different?  He was rebellious  Castro's experience as a lawyer made him extremely critical of the great inequalities in wealth that existed in Cuba.  Castro resented the wealth and power of the American businessmen

5 How long has Fidel Castro been a leader & why?  52 years  established the first communist state in the Western Hemisphere  reducing illiteracy, stamping out racism and improving public health care  had a highly antagonistic relationship with the United States

6 Positive traits that attracted others?  Motivating: provided especially lower class Cubans with a sense of self- esteem.  Independent: still able to manage in spite of heavy embargos  Determined: focused on becoming Cuba’s leader.  Courageous: Remained true to his values, regardless of what others thought, said, or did

7 Negative traits that attracted others?  Over confident: sense of superiority in knowledge.  Mismanaging: clung to a failed ideology  Excessively sensitive: too rigid and inflexible, driving away even initial advocates  Coercive: Dissidents were punished.  Authoritarian: unable to accept change during the first 30 years of his leadership

8 Where does he come from?  Mom was wealthy  Biran, Cuba  Dad was born in Spain  Sugar planter  Earned a doctor of law degree from University of Havana  Supportive family

9 How does his background affect his leadership position?  As he studied law it helped him become a leader.  He had a good supportive family  He had enough money

10 What caused him to fall from power?  Too old  Passed his power to younger brother Raul Castro
