Activities Warm-up: Thinking about students' difficulties in linear functions. Learning about what research has to say about students' difficulties in linear functions. Exploring NCTM e-example 7.5 and reflecting on the activities. Also learn about the NCTM technology principles.

Activities (Continued) Creating a dynamic graph in Excel for exploring the relationships between a linear equation and its graph. Reflecting on the role of electronic spreadsheets (e.g. Excel) with relation to the teaching and learning of linear functions.

Assignments Assignment 1(Warm-up): Thinking about middle and high school students' difficulties in linear functions (30 points). Assignment 2: Reflecting on NCTM technology principles and e-example 7.5: Exploring Linear Functions (30 points). Assignment 3: Reflecting on the role of electronic spreadsheets in relation to the teaching and learning of linear functions (40 points). Assignment 1 & 2 will be done in class. Assignment 3 is due on March 19 th, 2004.
