Big Ideas Bruner felt that students were more likely to understand and remember concepts they had discovered in the course of their own exploration. Papert felt that children could advance in their intellectual abilities more quickly with the right kind of environment and assistance.

Bruner Described development in three stages – Enactive Stage (0 – 3): Children perceive the environment through actions they initiate. Showing and modeling. – Iconic Stage (3 – 8): Children can remember and use information through imagery, decisions still made on basis of perception. – Symbolic Stage (8 +): Children begin to use symbols and better understand mathematical principles. Benchmarks to measure cognitive growth.

Papert Two Concepts Discovery learning and powerful concepts. – Children should be able to teach themselves., and need great flexibility to develop their own powerful ideas. Logo and the “microworlds” concept – Is graphics presented – Allows children to see cause and effect relationships and this makes possible “microworlds”
