She started as a part-time dishwasher. She liked working in the school so much that she applied for a full time job as a cook. She didn’t meet the job requirements, so she signed up for classes at the community college in food service. Merline believed in hard work and doing things the “old fashioned way.” Her staff is extremely loyal to her. Most of the employees have worked at City High for more than 10 years. Identify the different stages of personal change Merline is going through.

Another school is sending food to City High. Food is served in the classrooms while the kitchen and dining areas are being renovated. Merline was asked to work with the school district staff and contractors on the renovation. She loved the old kitchen and familiar equipment, but now it is all gone. She has decided to retire and let “new blood” rebuild City High’s kitchen. The plan includes all new equipment and a computerized cash register system. Pretend that you are an employee at City High. You are meeting with the district school staff about the new kitchen plans. Role-play your conversation with the school district staff as they describe plans for the new kitchen for City High.
