Muhammad & the idols Idols were fake gods. Idols gave people false hope. People came to Makkah to trade & visit the idols. The sale of idols made the rich richer & the poor poorer. The sale of idols made people greedy & selfish. There were many immoral people who cared for no one but themselves. What right did Muhammad have to tell people to change their faith! Idols make Makkah a prosperous city. Positive Influence Negative Influence The worship of the Idols make no moral demands on the peoples lives! If you prayed to the idols they would answer your prayers.

Modern Idols? Idols are not just statues of gods but are anything (desires, people & objects) which we value highly. Muhammad objected idol worship for many reasons both religious & social. He believed the idols had a negative influence on the people of Makkah. What does the word idol mean?
