GVAC athletic conference We will be in the Guadalupe Valley Athletic Conference. The 11 schools will be: Alamo Heights JS, Boerne ISD (Boerne-South MS), Comal Schools (Canyon MS, Church Hill MS, Smithson Valley, MS, Spring Branch MS), Kerrville ISD (Peterson MS), New Braunfels ISD (New Braunfels MS, Oak Run MS), Schertz-Cibolo-Universay City ISD (Corbett MS, Dobie MS).

PAPERWORK NEEDED To participate in UIL sports you will need the following: Physical from a Doctor on the correct UIL form – Due: June 5 th, 2015 AHISD 24 hour code of leadership form. UIL acknowledgment of rules UIL Concussion acknowledgement form UIL Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness form UIL Steroid Acknowledgement form

Eligibility First 6 weeks will be a grade check. Report card every 9 weeks. Progress report every 3 weeks to regain eligibility. What is passing? 70 or above in all classes. Waiver for advanced classes (GT or HS credit). Can only use once a year for one class.

Soccer – Boys- Nov. – Dec. – Girls- Jan.- Feb. Track- March – April All schedules will be posted on AHJS Athletics web page, coaches web pages &sent out through newsletter emails.

TEAM LEVELS AND PHILOSOPHY To develop individual and team skills to a competitive level in preparation for participation in high school sports. Individual skill level, attitude, attendance, team dynamics and coachability will determine playing time during games. Football & Volleyball will have 3 teams for each grade level. A team- Blue, B team – Gold & C team- White Basketball- Will have two teams per grade level. A team- Blue & B team- Gold Cross Country, Tennis, Soccer & Track will have one team per grade level.

What is Off- Season? When you are not currently on a “team” you will do workouts during athletic period. This group is titled “Off-season”. Workouts will include but are not limited to: Weight lifting Running or conditioning workouts Agility training Speed and power training Core strength training Instructions on injury prevention and stretching Preparation for next season/sport

PARENT VOLUNTEERS EACH TEAM WILL NEED TEAM PARENTS FOR THE FOLLOWING: – PLAN ANY SPECIAL EVENTS. – ORGANIZE CONCESSION STAND WORKERS. – ORGANIZE AND PREPARE TEAM SNACKS FOR GAME DAYS. If you are interested in volunteering please send an email to Coach Bond or Coach Michelle Boyer.

COMMUNICATION REQUEST When questions or concerns arise: – Encourage your child to speak with the coach directly. – Contact the appropriate coach as soon as possible Email is the best way during the school day. Request a short meeting with the coach. Please avoid before and after games to avoid interruption with coaching duties and supervision. If you are not able to get a response or resolution please contact Coach Bond or Boyer next.

AHJS Picnic & Scrimmage Fund Raiser Wednesday, Sept. 2 nd. At AHJS Football and Volleyball teams will scrimmage. Picnic after scrimmages. Donations: Please contact- Angela Wagner or Nichole Gottsacker 210-771-6163 210-823-7870 We need two 7 th grade parents to help also.

$ for sports No charge for uniforms, maybe socks and t shirts depending on sport. Coaches will send information home after try outs are done. Snack $ goes to parent who is doing team snacks. Towel fee goes to coaches- $10 per kid for the year. Please make check to AHISD if you send with student.

FAQ 1.What happens if my child does not make a team? They stay in off season during that same class period. 2.When are practices? Different sports differ in practice times based on court/field availability. It is best to contact the coach to get this information directly. 3.Are uniforms provided? Yes, once teams are chosen uniforms will be issued. 4.What is the procedure if my child is absent? Contact coach & get make up assignment.
